Ministry of Defence

Following a proud family tradition, Corporal Amelia Merry joined the British Army in 2012. As a Communications System Operator in the Royal Corps of Signals, Corporal Merry has served across the globe. She has deployed on operations to Afghanistan, serving in the role of a Guardian Angel - the term given to those who provide close protection security for the advisors and mentors at the Afghanistan National Army Officers’ Academy.  She has also deployed on numerous overseas exercises, including to Kenya where she instructed infantry soldiers on the technical application of antennae and propagation, as well as the use of Bowman radio systems, the British Army’s combat network radio. In 2017 Corporal Merry was selected to join the Royal Corps of Signals recruitment team where she travelled across the country speaking to motivated individuals who aspire to join the British Military, particularly in a STEM role. Now assigned to 251 Signal Squadron, Corporal Merry is held at extremely high readiness for UK operations. A sports enthusiast, Corporal Merry represents the Corps at netball and regularly competes in Corps athletics competitions. She is married to a serving Royal Marine, and when he is not deployed on operations, they endeavour to make the most of their time at home together.
