Nikita Pantal is a Senior Policy Adviser at the Department for Education. She is currently looking at girls’ participation in STEM subjects in a new team looking at the STEM skills pipeline. She has previously worked at the Government Equalities Office, Public Health England and the Department of Health.

  • Assessing the future challenges and opportunities for enhancing girl’s engagement in STEM education
  • Enhancing girls’ participation in STEM education routes through the government’s Post-16 Skills Plan and the development of new technical education routes to support the aim of workforce gender parity by 2030
  • Discussing the government’s £84 million funding in computer science to encourage girls’ participation in computer science programmes in schools and colleges
  • Sharing STEM opportunities with women and girls through the development of the STEM Ambassadors programme and investment in projects which increase access for girls entering STEM subjects
  • Reflecting on the Sir Adrian Smith review into post-16 mathematics education and outlining how the gender gap in participation can be addressed
