Rosa Wells, a former Aerospace Manufacturing Engineer, has been delivering employer responsive training for the engineering sector for over ten years. As a firm advocate for flexible training solutions to ensure learning opportunities linked to career development are available to employees of all backgrounds, she has become more closely involved in supporting engineering employers with their recruitment process. The WISE West Midlands Hub was launched in Autumn 2016 and is working create a network of female role models who can work closely with schools in the region and encourage more girls to choose an engineering or STEM based careers and particularly raising awareness of apprenticeship opportunities.

  • Working in partnership to develop a WISE STEM employer network to support outreach activities for further education and local schools
  • Developing female apprentices in a diverse fields and facilitating opportunities for them to share their experiences of STEM subjects with their peers and local schools
  • Formulating a network of female engineers to support mentoring, advice and networking opportunities to advance women’s careers in STEM through further education
  • Analysing how colleges can implement successful careers advice which support girls considering STEM career opportunities
  • Assessing how all further education institutions can collaborate with schools to deliver outreach sessions, volunteer programmes and engage girls in the subjects offered at post-16 level
